2019 SIMMS G4 WADERS VS. PATAGONIA RIO GALLEGOS ZIP FRONT WADERS

2019 PRO WADER SHOOTOUT!

Both the Simms G4 and Patagonia Rio Gallegos Zip Front Waders are considered professional grade fly fishing waders, especially among Kenai River Fishing Guides. Although they are both their respective manufacturer’s top-of-the-line waders, they both come in at very different price points:

Simms G4 Pro: $749.99

Patagonia Rio Gallegos: $499.99

Patagonia Rio Gallegos Zip Front Waders: $599.99

Whether you choose the Simms G4 or the Patagonia Rio Gallegos Waders, you can rest-assured that they are both durable, reliable and comfortable.

The waders to have a lot of differences though, and are outlined in the full-length YouTube Video above.

I have owned both pairs of waders for over 2 years now, putting them through some intense fishing scenarios. I have guided in the Simms and Patagonia waders for a combined 300+ days. Both have had their very strong attributes, while each had a few flaws and failures to note.

I really like the fit and feel of the G4 waders, but the boots of the Patagonia waders are much thicker and warmer, especially in the cold water of the Kenai River.

Be sure to check out the full video for an in-depth review of both waders!

Let us know your preference in waders, some of the features you like and dislike.

***UPDATE***Both Simms and Patagonia just released new models for 2020 with Simms rolling out a totally redesigned G4 and Patagonia came out with their Swiftcurrent Expedition wader.

From early reviews, it seems like the new Simms G4 waders fit a little more snug than previous G4 models, while Patagonia’s Swiftcurrent waders fit well and their new, larger pocket, coupled with quick-release suspenders are a welcome upgrade.

Stay tuned as we’ll have a full review of both waders later in 2020!
