IF SEPTEMBER IS A GREAT TIME TO take a FISHING TRIP TO ALASKA, THEN OCTOBER COMES PRETTY CLOSE.

FALL AND EVEN WINTER SET IN EARLY AND OCTOBER CAN VARY GREATLY IN TEMPERATURE WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH BEING QUITE NICE. BY THE END OF OCTOBER, IT CAN FEEL JUST LIKE WINTER. DON’T BE DISCOURAGED THOUGH. IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT LAYERS AND GEAR, YOU WILL LOVE FISHING IN ALASKA IN OCTOBER.

Alaska Fishing in OCTOBER

True anglers absolutely love fishing in Alaska in October. There are still lots of chrome Silver Salmon around and the Rainbow Trout fishing can remain outstanding. Though the spawning Salmon are starting to die off, there are residual spawning pairs around and Trout will be receptive to painted beads. Once Salmon start to die off, they begin to rot. Their carcasses get lodged in wood and rocks and begin to fall apart. Trout love to gorge on Salmon flesh and using Flesh Flies will yield lots of success.

Anglers fishing in October will have to prepare to face the possibility of wind, rain and possibly even snow. Alaska will test you this time of year when fishing and it’s best to have the best layering and Gore-Tex you can find. If you can brave the weather, the fish should reward you. Whether you are Trout fishing or chasing Silvers around (or doing a bit of both), there are still some big Rainbow Trout to be caught and Silvers ranging in the 8-15 lb range.

Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden are still packing on the weight for the coming wither months and October boasts some of the largest Rainbows being hooked. Stretches of the Kenai in Cooper Landing, Sterling and Soldotna can be great in October.

Alaska in October is a great time of year to try two-handed fishing or Spey fishing, swinging big streamers and flesh flies across the current waiting for the undeniable tug from a ferocious Rainbow Trout. Landing big trophy fish is what October is all about :)

There are still a few opportunities to get out on the salt water to fish in October; however, the halibut and salmon fishing can be pretty poor (and also closed in some regions). Be sure to get in touch with a reputable fishing charter in Seward, Homer or Whittier to find out what’s biting or if it’s even worth getting out there to fish in October.

If you are looking for one of the best times to fish in Alaska, October can be right up there. Trout fishing is still pretty good, there are lots of Silver Salmon in the Kenai River and there are a lot fewer people on the water to compete with.

OCTOBER FISHING IN ALASKA.

The rivers and streams seem to have less and less people on them through the month of October.

The major Salmon spawn has ended, but the flesh bite and swinging of flies on 2-handed Spey Rods for big Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden is in full swing.

Fishing in Alaska in October is for hearty anglers who are willing to brave the elements in search of a trophy Rainbow Trout or a big Silver Salmon.
