The best Alaska trout fishing, besides the month of May and early June when the Kenai River is closed to trout fishing, our guides religiously fish for trout on the entire Kenai River (Even on their days off).

Rainbow Trout of the Kenai River in Alaska feed on a variety of salmon parts year-round as well as young salmon, trout, lampreys, leeches, etc…

With over 100 miles of various terrain for trout to roam, feed and live, this unique fishery produces outstanding numbers of Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden, making Alaska’s Kenai River one of the best Alaska trout fishing destinations in the entire state and frankly the world.

KENAI RIVER RAINBOW TROUT FISHERY

There aren’t many rivers that can rival Alaska’s Kenai River Rainbow Trout fishery. Average fish can range in the 12-15” range with thousands of fish in the 20+” class. Many anglers visit the Kenai River to attempt to land giant, trophy-class 30” rainbow trout. These fish can be caught year-round, but the months of August and September can provide some of the best opportunities at these behemoths.

When most anglers think about trout fishing in Alaska, they think about the world-famous Kenai River!

KENAI RIVER DOLLY VARDEN/CHAR

Often overlooked as a trophy fish in Alaska waters, Dolly Varden also roam the waters of the Kenai River in big numbers. Many days, anglers catch just as many if not more Dolly Varden as they do Rainbow Trout.

Dolly Varden can also reach rather large sizes as their food source is the same as Rainbow Trout. It is not uncommon to catch Dollies in the 15-20” range and sometimes fish nearing the 30” mark have been netted.

Dollies are aggressive, hard-fighting fish and are plentiful on the waters we fish.

We practice strict catch and release for Dolly Varden on our trout trips.

Often, when Alaska Trout Fishing, anglers encounter multiple, hard-fighting Dolly Varden.
