Booking a Fishing Charter in Alaska
Prior to booking our Pacific Salmon Charters or trout charters, you will need a general idea of when you plan to be in Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula. If you have no specific plans, see our Travel Page, our Fish Species Page and our May, June, July, August, September or October pages. These pages will give you a good idea of when to plan your Alaska sport fishing adventure. (Cost of fishing license not included)
King Salmon (Chinook Salmon) Fishing Charters
Kenai River Salmon Fishing Guides will tell you that King Salmon or Chinook Salmon are one of the most prized sport fish in Alaska. These are some of our most popular pacific salmon charters. King Salmon can be hard to catch, but there aren’t many fish in our rivers that rival the mighty King. Catching Fish like kings is a true adventure. King Salmon fishing makes for an awesome Alaskan wilderness fishing experience!
Alaska Rainbow Trout & Dolly Varden Fishing Charters
Ask any Kenai River Fishing Guide who runs a Trout fishing day trips why they love the Kenai River and they’ll tell you that you have a chance to catch your personal-best Rainbow Trout. There are monsters lurking in our waters. Rainbow Trout in Alaska can reach up to 30 inches! This is the species that makes guided fly fishing in Alaska really shine!
Kenai River Rainbow Trout average in the mid to upper teens in length but can reach 30 inches or more. Finding these giants isn’t always easy. There are certain times of year when you have a better chance of hooking a fish of a lifetime. Rainbow trout fishing in Alaska takes you back to a time when trout were wild and rivers ran free!
The best time to take Alaska Trout Fishing Charters on the Kenai is during the fall. The months of August, September and October can be outstanding. Our guides look forward to the fall more than any other time of year. The numbers of trout caught on our guided fishing trips and the fact that you could hook a giant, make every fall fishing trip on the Kenai River exciting!

Alaska Sockeye Salmon (Red Salmon) Fishing
There are two primary “peak” Sockeye Salmon runs that occur on the Kenai River. Sockeye Salmon are one of our favorite fish to target on our Pacific Salmon Charters. The first run of Sockeye Salmon almost exclusively make their way up the Russian River in early June. This is important to know because there aren’t a lot of “hot spot” areas to target these fish. Kenai River Fishing Charters fill up very fast during the first run of Sockeye.
Most fishing for first run Sockeye Salmon is done at the confluence of the Russian River with the Kenai River near Sportsman’s Landing. Sockeye Salmon tend to “pile up” near the mouth of the Russian River on the “river left” side of the Kenai River. This is typically known as the “Combat Fishing Area,” where both the fish concentrate and anglers gather in large numbers. Talk about an Alaskan Fishing experience!
See our CHARTER FISHING PACKAGES below for more information.
Alaska Silver Salmon (Coho Salmon) Fishing
Coho (Silver) Salmon can typically be found in the Kenai River and Kasilof River starting around August 1st. Though they are around during August, the best time to target them for great fishing is through the month of September into mid-October. Pacific Salmon Charters for Silvers are arguably the most intense and fun once you get into these aggressive fish!
Silver Salmon return to the Kenai River after only a year of being out in the ocean, but during that short time, they can average 8-10lbs and up. Silvers can be a little picky. Given the right conditions, you can expect to catch a handful in a short period of time.
