AK SALMON FISHING PACKAGES

BEST AK SALMON FISHING PACKAGES

The first step to picking the best Alaska Fishing Trip for you is learning about the ideal time of year for salmon fishing in Alaska. The next step is figuring out what places offer the best fishing for salmon in our great state.

IDEAL TIME OF YEAR TO FISH IN ALASKA

  • MAY - The first runs of King Salmon and a few Sockeye Salmon will start to make their way to rivers in Alaska in May. This is also a good time to try fishing in the ocean out of Seward or Homer for salmon in the saltwater.

  • JUNE - King Salmon are still running strong in many rivers and the ocean fishing can be pretty good, but starts to taper off for salmon.

  • JULY - This is when huge numbers of Sockeye Salmon start to run on the rivers here in Alaska and can offer some of the best salmon fishing all year. Silver Salmon are also targeted this time of year on the ocean in very good numbers.

  • AUGUST - As Sockeye Salmon fishing starts to slow down, Silver or Coho Salmon start to make their way into the rivers. This can still be a very good time in the ocean to target Silver Salmon.

  • SEPTEMBER - Silver fishing in the ocean will slow dramatically in September, but the river fishing for Silvers is very, very good. Peak runs of Silver Salmon hit the rivers of Alaska during the month of September. This is the favorite time of year for Alaskans to fish.

  • OCTOBER - Still an excellent time to fish for Silvers in the rivers of Alaska, especially on the Kenai River. This time of year is when some salmon can be targeted again in the ocean, mainly out of Homer.

WHERE ARE SALMON RUNNING ON ALASKA’S ROAD SYSTEM?

  • KENAI RIVER: Almost 80 miles of fishable water for salmon. Easy road access & plentiful runs of salmon.

  • KASILOF RIVER: Roughly 15 miles of fishable water that has 4 species of pacific salmon: Pink Salmon, King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon and Silver Salmon. The Kasilof is very hard to fish on foot and is not easy to fish from a boat.

  • SEWARD: Ocean charters for silver salmon are very popular in Seward, AK. Lots of opportunities in the late-summer and early fall time frame.

  • HOMER: Some silver salmon fishing and king salmon fishing (depending o the time of year) on ocean charters.
