Interview Preview: SpeyCo Reels

This is a preview of our interview with SpeyCo Reels.  Our full interview is coming early in 2018.

Jackie and I had an opportunity to spend a day with Tim and Michael Pantzlaff from SpeyCo Reels earlier this month. They gave us a tour of their shop and took us out on their home water for a swing session hunting for big brown trout and steelhead.

I have been a big fan of SpeyCo since I can remember and this was the first time we had a chance to get our hands on these beautiful reels.

Some awesome finished SpeyCo reels about to be shipped to their new owners!

If there's one thing to be said about spey anglers: we love simple, unique, functional equipment. Tim at SpeyCo makes some of the most beautiful, utilitarian and heavily-sought-after reels on the market. If I didn't blow all my money on fly tying gear and rods, I'd probably have 10 of Tim's reels by now!

The evolution of spey anglers almost invariably leads to click and pawl reel systems. Tim has come up with a Patent-Pending Hexad drag system that is buttery smooth and must be felt to be appreciated. SpeyCo reels have been sold all over the planet and continue to grow in popularity. Every spey enthusiast should give SpeyCo reels a serious consideration. For a full line-up of reels, check out their website at www.speyco.net.

In our interview with Tim and Mike, we learn about the reels, how SpeyCo came to be and about Tim's role in Green Bay's music scene in the 90s.

Make no mistake, the story of SpeyCo Reels make us further appreciate their humble birth in the midwest and sets their reels and business apart as a unique American-made success story. Each reel is carefully crafted by hand in their Oconto, WI shop and can be custom-tailored to your specifications. Not only are SpeyCo reels beautiful to look at, their function and feel demands that every serious spey angler consider them for their arsenal.

Tim's contribution and influence in the Spey world is strong and we think the more you get to know about SpeyCo, the more you'll want to become a part of the SpeyCo family. Stay tuned for our full interview coming soon!
